British
Columbia Rockies
To the east side of this region are the Rocky Mountains and to the west,
the Purcells. The parallel running Rocky Mountain Trench is located in the
centre of the area. It is 3 km (2 miles) widening to 16 km (10 miles) in
the southern end. Explorer, David Thompson was the first white man to cross
the Rockies, after which the discovery of gold brought in the area's primary
population. Even today these mountains are relatively untouched and offer
excellent camping and hiking possibilities. There is a wide range of accommodation
and recreational choices
in the area.
